We work with government agencies, local authorities, trusts, and cultural organisations to develop messaging, understand audiences, and blend media communications approaches to tell stories across traditional spoken word, graphics, publications, exhibitions, film, audio, interactive media, XR, and horizon technologies like machine learning and AI. Role Overview

The successful candidate will cover maternity leave for a highly valued member of the team until 16th April 2027. You will be a highly valued addition, creating greater capacity to work on exciting cultural sector projects with government agencies, local authorities, trusts, and cultural organisations.

1. Travel Requirements: Site visitations are typically required 2 to 3 times per month (travel costs covered). Occasional international travel to the EU or meetings in London/York may be required.

Experience & Requirements

1. Core Skills: 5 or more years of experience in a mid-level interpretive designer role with 3D design as a minimum core skill, and strong RIBA 3–5 design skills.
2. Project Background: Worked on medium-to-large scale projects (£1m+) servicing regional, national, or international organisations with cultural sector clients or sectors with storytelling needs.
3. Design & Collaboration: Solid understanding of the design process, creative project management, sub-contracted makers/producers, and innovative design environments with communities (co-imagination, co-creation).
4. Technical Proficiency: Proficient with (or willing to quickly translate over to) VectorWorks, and familiar with a wide variety of display construction techniques and materials.
5. Professional Approach: True team player, comfortable contributing to new work pitches, responding to design briefs, working with external subject matter experts, following art direction, managing multiple parallel projects, producing design stage documentation, and acting client-facing alongside senior in-house designers.
6. Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree.
7. Beneficial: Membership of the Association for Heritage Interpretation (or similar), familiarity with remote collaboration tools, and graphic design experience.
